Sometime after 1856, Lewis married Rosina Catharina Schneider. Their illegitimate son George Allmandinger was born 23 April 1856. They left Germany 26 Oct 1856, heading to America. Son George died while at sea. They arrived in Baltimore, Maryland on 2 Mar 1857.

Lewis and Rosina settled in Butler County, Ohio. In the 1860 US Census, "Louis Imondinger" and his wife Rosina were living in St. Clair, Butler, Ohio with two sons: John Louis and Michael.[3]

Lewis and Rosina were in Wayne, Butler County, Ohio for the 1870 US Census with the following children: Lewis, Michael, John W, Jacob, William Carl, and Frederick.[4] Daughter Catherine, born in 1860, had died in 1863.
