Biography
Winifred Kate was born in 1906 at Aston, Warwickshire, the daughter of Thomas Allmark and Beatrice Alice Beebee. [1]
She was baptised on 12 August 1906 at Aston Juxta [St Peter and St Paul Church], Aston. Her family was then living at Back 89 Tower Rd and father Thomas was a tailor's shopman. [2]
In the 1911 census Winifred was living with her family at 12 Adrian Cottages, High St, King's Heath, Worcestershire. She was aged 4 years. [3]
In the 1930 electoral roll Winifred was living with her family at 128 Westfield Road, King's Heath. [4]
Winifred Kate Allmark married George Alfred Devey in 1931. [5]
Winifred and George were residing at 81 Beechwood Road, Kings Heath in the 1935 and 1939 electoral rolls. [6]
The 1939 Register, taken on 29 September 1939, has been described as a snapshot of the civilian population of England and Wales just after the outbreak of the Second World War. The Register recorded each person's address, date of birth and occupation.
At that time George and Winifred were still living at 81 Beechwood Road. George, born 16 September 1906, was aged 33. He was a butcher's branch manager. Winifred, born 28 July 1906, was also aged 33. Her surname was later amended to Thirlby, the surname of her second husband. [7]
George and Winifred separated and in the 1945 electoral roll Winifred was living at the same address with her two married sisters Gladys Stewart and Dorothy Adams. Their husbands were likely absent due to the war [WWII]. [8]
Winifred then remarried to Maurice Arthur Thirlby in 1946. [9]
Winifred and Maurice were also living at 81 Beechwood Road in the 1950 to 1960 rolls. Then in the 1962 and 1965 rolls they were residing at 33 Hawthorne Rd. [10]
Winifred Kate Thirlby died in 1989 aged 83 years. [11]
Maurice was still living at 33 Hawthorne Rd in the 2003 electoral roll. [12]
Maurice Arthur Thirlby died in 2003 aged 91 years. [13]
