Ken was born in Lithgow, NSW in 1910, the only son of Charles and Freda Allsop.
Ken probably arrived in Rabaul, New Britain in the Territory of New Guinea in about 1935.
His only sister, Hazel married S.V.Bayley of the New Guinea Administration staff in Rabaul in 1936 and Ken gave the bride away.[1]
He was employed by W.R. Carpenter & Co. Ltd. of Rabaul from at least 1937.[2]
He was best man at the wedding of the Rev. H.J. Peason in Rabaul in 1938.[3]
He married Millicent Netta (Netta) Pearce in Rabaul in 1940.
Ken was a member of the New Guinea Volunteer Rifles, a volunteer Militia sponsored by the Australian Army, but which was not able to be part of it under the League of Nations Mandate until after Japan entered the War. He was called to duty on 21 Jan 1942 as a Rifleman (NG4001) and when the Japanese invaded New Britain 2 days later on 23 Jan 1942 he was captured at Bunolima and became a Prisoner of War, initially held at Rabaul. He died on board the "Montevideo Maru" when it was torpedoed and sunk off the coast of the Philippines on 01 Jul 1942 en route from Rabaul to Hainan where he was destined for forced labour.
He was posthumously enrolled in the 2nd AIF as NGX464.
