Biography

The following information from "The Allsop Family Genealogy" compiled by Lura (Wiley) Brockett 1995. John Allsop was born 16 Mar 1804 in Belper, Derbyshire County, England. He was the son of Samuel Allsop and Sarah Webster. John died 10 May 1878 in Effingham County, Illinois and was buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Effingham County, Illinois. He married Mary Ann Slater 15 Aug 1825 in Derby, Saint Alkmund, England. She was born 27 Dec 1802 in Belper, Derbyshire County, England, the daughter of William Anthony Slater and Hannah (or Ann) Stone. Mary died 27 Mar 1847 in Moccasin, Effingham County Illinois and was buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Effingham County, Illinois. They had 8 children. John married Mary P Clow 18 Dec 1856 in Fayette County, Illinois. Notes for Mary follow: They were married by John Smith. Notes for John follow: He arrived in America in 1845. He was a wheelwright in Belper and lived on Field Lane in Belper according to the 1841 census.

John and his family came to America in 1845 and to Effingham Co. before 1847. There were 7 children - at least four came to Illinois.
