Joseph Witter Allworth was born on October 2, 1847, in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. His parents were William Allworth and Hannah Myles.[1]
Joseph and Mary Madeline Hayley (1850 - 1924) were married on 31 Dec, 1873 at the Cathedral Church, Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia by the Lord Bishop of the diocese, assisted by the Rev. William Allworth, Joseph's father. [2][3]

In 1900, Joseph appeared on the electoral roll, residing at East Maitland, New South Wales, Australia. His occupation was listed as surveyor.[5]
In Feb, 1901, Joseph was appointed the position of Chief Surveyor, Director of Triginometrical Surveys, and District Surveyor for the districts of Campbelltown, Kiama, Liverpool, Metropolitan, Milton, Nowra, Parramatta, Penrith, Picton, Windsor and Wollongong upon the retirement of Edward Twynam.[6]
At a farewell gathering held at the Mechanics' Institute in East Maitland on the evening of Friday, 5 Jul, 1901, Joseph was presented with a framed address and an oak chest, filled with silver tableware, with an inscription of "Presented to Joseph Witter Allworth by his friends of the Maitland Land Board District. Maitland, June, 1901."[7]
Joseph died at his home at Hunter's Hill, New South Wales, Australia, of appendicitis, on October 14, 1904, aged 57 years. His funeral was held on 15 Oct, 1904,[8] and he was buried in Rookwood Cemetery, at Rookwood, New South Wales, Australia.[9][10][11] [12]
Chief mourners at his funeral were Leslie and Ernest Allworth (sons), J.N. Allworth and W.F. Allworth (brothers), Cecil, Reginald, Herbert, and Stanley Allworth, and H. Thresher (nephews).[8]
