Biography

Henry was born on 1 Apr 1792, the second born of Pelatiah III and Mary Ann Gillett. He married Sophia Taylor on 14 Oct 1813. She was a sister of Pelatiah IV's wife. They had nine children, Clarinda, Clarissa, Evaline, Henry, Hiram, Sophia, Homer, Caroline, and Helen. In June 1835 he moved his entire family to Ohio, with one exception. His oldest daughter remained in Barkhamsted. He was accompanied by his brother Matthew and his family and his mother. After a short time at Freedom, Ohio the family settled at Wellington. Within the family there is a story of two brothers who came from England. One of them changed the name to Allyn, the new way, and one stayed the old way of Allen to distinguish his progeny. In this way their descendants can be traced. Henry died on 3 Aug 1860 in Wellington, Ohio.
