Biography

Mary was born in 1711[1]. She is the daughter of Job Almy and Bridget Sanford. She married Samuel Almy in 1729[2]. She passed on May 8, 1800.

Research

Mary seemingly appears as a widow head of household in the 1774 census of Rhode Island[3]. The distribution of the household and inferred attributions are

  • one woman over 16: Mary
  • two Blacks: unknown

A look through the book "William Almy and his Descendants in America" indicates only one other possibility for this Mary, the wife of John Almy. We choose this Mary because we know she was alive at this time while her sons had all passed, so she was left without a natural household to take her in.
