Her birth record in Dublin does not give a first name, but her parents are Daniel Alson and Isabella Waller.[1] A marriage registered in 1897 links Cesarine Alson and Hamilton Stewart Brown.[2] There is also an announcement in the Liverpool Courier:[3]
STEWART-BROWN - ALSON - August 11 at All Saints' Church, Monkwearmouth, by the Rev. A. A. Boddy, Vicar, assisted by the Rev. B. F. Good, M. A. (cousin of the bride), Hamilton Stewart-Brown, fourth son of Stewart Henry Brown, of Quarry Bank, Allerton, Liverpool, to Cesarine, oldest daughter of the late Captain Alson, and granddaughter of the late Captain Robert Waller, 87th Regiment, of Castle Waller, Co. Tipperary.
Three years later, she appears in the census as the wife of Hamilton S Brown[4] with son Leslie (2), daughter Aileen (9 mo) and 4 servants. By 1911, Leslie does not appear, but daughter Winifred Marian Stewart Brown (6) and Dennis Stewart Brown (3) are added.[5] The record shows a marriage length of 14 years, 4 children born alive and 4 living. Has Leslie already moved out at 12? Boarding school?
There is a Gertrude Alson who appears with the last name Alson and Stewart-Brown in various places. She was born in 1893, 4 years before the Alson/Stewart-Brown marriage. Finding out her true parentage is a work in progress.
