Biography

William was born in 1703 in Chowan (later Bertie, then Edgecombe) County, Colonial Carolina. William is the child of John Alston and Mary. Recent research has shown that Mary Clark couldn't have been John Alston's wife, but that Mary Baker probably was the wife of John Alston. William passed away in 1743. [1]

Died at age 29. NOTE: This disagrees with life-dates given.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

As a member of the US Black Heritage Project, I have added a list of the slaves owned and bequeathed by John Alston on this profile with categories using the standards of the US Black Heritage Exchange Program. This helps us connect enslaved ancestors to their descendants. See the US Black Heritage: Heritage Exchange Portal for more information.

Oh, my; I created the duplicate profile (2017), after this one (2012). I guess for some reason it didn't show as a dup a the time.

Looks like Hannah Kimbrough's need merging too... Kimbrough-149 and Kimbrough-153...

Alston-474 and Alston-135 appear to represent the same person because: Both of these William Alstons are shown as married to Hannah Kimbrough. Hannah (née Kimbrough) Yancey married (1) William Alston, (2) Jeconias Yancey according to 2 secondary sources: (1) Groves, Joseph A. MD, “The Alstons and Allstons of North and South Carolina,” The Franklin Printing and Publishing Co., Atlanta, GA, 1901.
