Biography

Edward Altham was the second son of James Altham of Mark Hall, Latton, Essex, and Elizabeth Blank.[1][2]

As his elder brother Thomas Altham, was born around 1551 it is presumed Edward was born c 1552-1555. See Inquisition of Sir Thomas Blanke.

Edward was noted in the will of James Wattar of Latton, Essex, Yeoman, the will made on 01 Sep 1571 and proved on 17 Oct 1572, as the second son of James Altham esquire.[3]

Edward Altham married Elizabeth Barne the daughter of John Barne and Jane Langton.

Children:[1][2]

  • [Sir] James Altham[4]
  • Mary Altham
  • Emanuel Altham
  • Edward Altham

In the will of his stepmother Dame Mary Judde of Latton, Essex, the will made on 20 Feb 1596/1597, published on 13 Jul 1601, and proved on 19 Feb 1601/1602[5] the Testatrix made bequests to her 'son in law' Edward Altham and his wife Elizabeth. Dame Mary Judde was also the grandmother of his wife Elizabeth.

In a Hawtrey of Middlesex Pedigree he was recorded as 'Sir' Edward Altham of Markhall, Essex, father of Mary Altham who married Rafe Hawtrey of Rislip, Middlesex.[6] The designation of 'Sir' appears to be an error.

Edward Altham esq. was buried on 08 Apr 1605 at Latton, Essex.[7]
