"Harry F. Althaus, 84, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2009, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Mr. Althaus was born on July 23, 1924 in Bisbee, AZ to the late Harry John and Emily Althaus. He was raised in Fort Bayard, NM. He served in the 8th Army Air Corps, as an official ground photographer during World War II, and was stationed in England. He graduated from New Mexico A & MA (now New Mexico State University) in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. He was a registered Professional Civil Engineer in Arizona and New Mexico. Harry came to Albuquerque after working with the Atomic Energy Commission at Los Alamos. Harry Althaus married Mary Elizabeth Hale on August 30, 1947, in Douglas AZ. They lived in Arizona, California, Nevada, and New Mexico following Harry's career. Photography and golfing were lifelong passions. He was a long-time Episcopalian and a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Rio Rancho. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Althaus; son, Bryan Althaus and wife Deb, and her son, Tommy Hamer of Albuquerque; daughter, Roxanne Althaus; and grandson Brandon Althaus of Lubbock, TX. Mr. Althaus is also survived by his two sisters, Jean Lee and Mary Jane McDowell and their families of Alamogordo. A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m., at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 2903 19th Ave., Rio Rancho with interment to follow at Vista Verde Cemetery. Friends may visit French Mortuary Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m."
