Biography

When Adelaide Helen ALTMAN was born on February 7, 1917, in Flint, Michigan, her father, Henry, was 33, and her mother, Mabel, was 30. She married Donald Peter MCFARLANE on August 13, 1938, in her hometown. They had five children during their marriage. She died on June 2, 2007, in Lansing, Michigan, at the age of 90, and was buried there.

1938 Aug 19, Friday, Flint Journal, Page 19 Reveal Marriage Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Altman, 2112 Beach Street, announce the marriage of their daughter, Adelaide Helen, and Donald McFarlane, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. T. McFarlane of Lansing. The ceremony was read in St. Matthew church Saturday, August 13, with the Rev. Fr. James J. Signet officiating. They were attended by Miss Mary Barker of Lansing and Thomas McFarlane, brother of the bridegroom.

Adelaide H. McFarlane passed away Saturday, June 2, 2007 in Charlotte, Michigan. Adelaide was born in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Henry and Mabel (Ransford) Altman. She was a member of St. Mary Cathedral Church and St. Mary Altar Society.

Adelaide is survived by her five children, Patricia A. (Zane) Benedict, Mary Alice (Joseph) Lipinski, Madeline (Miguel) Alviar, Peter Donald McFarlane and Diane M. (Kevin) Speerbrecker; two brothers, Howard (Shirley) Altman and James Altman; one sister, Dorothy (Ralph) McCumber; seven grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren.

Adelaide was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Peter McFarlane. The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with a one hour visitation before the service at St. Mary Cathedral, 219 Seymour with the Rev. Msgr. Michael D. Murphy as celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday 6-9 p.m. with a Rosary service being prayed at 7:00p.m. at St. Mary Cathedral. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice, 2675 South Cochran, Charlotte, Michigan 48813. Arrangements by Palmer, Bush and Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Delta Chapel.
