Biography

William and George, sons of James and Dorothy Aulton, were christened at Duffield, Derbyshire, on 11 September 1774.[1]

William married Mary Wallis on 10 November 1801 in St Alkmund's Church, Derby, Derbyshire, England.[2]

William Alton of Turnditch, Derbyshire, made his last will on 16 July 1848 naming his children James Alton, George Alton, William Alton, Thomas Alton, John Alton, Hannah the wife of Thomas Woolley of Radbourne, Jane Alton, and Mary the wife of John Harvey of Derby, publican. He died on 15 March 1849. Probate was granted at Derby on 17 April 1849 to his son James Alton, licensed victualler of Lodge Lane, Derby.[3][4]

William Alton of Turnditch aged 74 was buried on 20 March 1849 in Duffield, Derbyshire, England.[5]

Research Note

This person has been confused with his cousin William Alton born in 1765.

There seem to be two families conflated here. Neither James nor George mentioned in the will of William Alton of Turnditch were the James and George sons of William and Ann christened in Pentrich. The birth date of 1775 seems too late for a marriage in 1790.
