John Alverson born c1759 Fairfax Co. Va., died 25 Feb 1829 Laurens Dist., S. C. He md. Frances who was born in 1769 and died 7 Jan 1853 in Laurens Dist., S. C. They had: Elijah, Zachariah, William, John Jr., Frances (fem), Polly, Kissie.
John was a revolutionary war soldier in the continental line out of Virginia. He was at Valley Forge as a wounded soldier. After he was discharged at Valley Forge he returned home to Virginia and a while later enlisted a second time as a wagoner. After the war he moved for a while to Caswell County N. C. He drew bounty land for his services and then moved to Laurens Dist., S. C.
War Department, Virginia Agency, 1814, shows John Alverson, private, annual allowance $40, pension commenced Mar 4, 1794, transferred to N. Carolina [Caswell Co].
The 1835 census of pensioners shows John Alverson, private, annual allowance $40, sums received $480, Virginia cont'l line, pension commenced Sept 4, 1802, age 70, transferred from North Carolina from September 4, 1814. Three more entries, increased pension to $64. Last entry says Died February 25, 1829.
John Alverson served as a Private of the Cont'l line for the war. Wt. 4790 Iss. to him 1 Apl., 1797.
John Alverson, Fairfax. L4.7.71/2 due 14 feb 1776. Removed to one of the Carolinas about fifteen years ago; poor, and supposed to be dead.
