Alexander was born about 1700.

Margaret Scott m. in Kelso, Scotland, Thomas Ingles. She was an aunt of Sir Walter Scott. Her daughter Elizabeth m. Alexander Alves of Edinburgh and had a dau., McDowell Alves, who m. James Hogg and settled in North Carolina just before the Revolution. He had the names of his sons Gavin and Walter changed from Hogg to Alves.
