John Valentine Alvey[7]

John Valentine Alvey (b. about 1817, Washington County, d. after July 1880, Daviess or McLean counties), a son of Henry Alvey Sr. and Rachel Summers, married 1. Julianne Gasaway (b. about 1818), a daughter of Samuel Gasaway, on 15 March 1839 in Hardin County, Ky.[8]

Alvey was a carpenter and lived for many years in Daviess County, Ind., and Pettis County, Mo. He married 2. Martha Summers (b. about 1826, Ind., d. after June 1850, probably Martin County, Ind.) on 18 April 1846 in Daviess County, Ind.[9]; 3. Ann Raney on 28 December 1850 in Martin County, Ind.; and 4. Rebecca _ (b. 1833, Va.) before 1860.

Upon returning to Kentucky about 1870, Alvey stopped in Breckinridge County and helped build a new Catholic church there while staying with his brother Richard.

Alvey's most significant marriage to Kentucky genealogists was his fifth, to Elizabeth Ann Head (b.1833, Bullitt County, Ky., d. after 3 September 1877, Ky.), a daughter of James Greenbury Head and Susannah Emerson and widow of James Augustine Livers, on 15 August 1871 in Daviess County, Ky.

The couple had three children, two of whom died young and were buried in the old St. Raphael Catholic Cemetery in Daviess County, Ky. However, their son Mathias Alberta "Allie" AIvey lived to a ripe old age and his descendants are still well represented in Daviess County, Ky. John and Elizabeth's children, all bom in Daviess County, Ky., were

1. Charles Melvin (b. 28 June 1872, d. 20 December 1872, Daviess County),

2. Mathias Alberta "Allie' Alvey (b. 9 October 1873, d. 27 February 1958, Daviess County, m. Mary Joseph "Josie" Clark), and

3. Jerome (b., d. 3 September 1877).

After Elizabeth's death and shortly before his own, Alvey married for a sixth time, to Henrietta Henning (b. 1827, Ky., d. before July 1880, Daviess or McLean counties), widow of Isaac Towery, in McLean County on 2 February 1880 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Daviess County, Ky.
