Biography
Maria Anna Alvord, born 19 Aug 1834 in Bristol, Ohio, was the sixth child of Alpheus Alvord and Clara Sackett.
Note: This birth family probably resided in Bristol Township, in Trumbull County, not the village of Bristol in Perry County, Ohio.
She married 20 Aug 1848 in Chardon, Geauga County, Ohio, John Loren Hughes [b. 9 Dec 1830, Adams County, Pennsylvania, son of Joseph and Amy (Bower) Hughes]. They had 4 children, born at Watson, Michigan:
- Emma Maria Hughes, b. 5 Mar 1860; married Feb 1884 LeGrand Tyler; resided @ Kalamazoo, Michigan
- John Charles Hughes (12 Aug 1861 - Dec 1863)
- Edith Pearl Hughes, b. 14 Jun 1863; became a very successful teacher, died from overwork 28 May 1888
- Jessie Mabel Hughes, b. 9 Dec 1864; married Jan 1890 Horace L. Ashley; resided @ Watson, Michigan
Maria Ann (Alvord) Hughes died 28 Feb 1910. Her grave is in Miner Cemetery, Martin, Allegan County, Michigan, USA [1].
