He married 7 Apr 1849 in Battle Creek, Michigan, Caroline Louisa Moore [b. 23 Dec 1830 in New York State, daughter of Arvilla (Newton) Moore; d. 9 Dec 1905 @ Detroit, Michigan]. They had 9 children:
William Alanson Alvord served in the Mexican War either as private or Capt. in the regiment of Col. Ely of Alma, Mich. By occupation he was a lumberman and a farmer during his later years.
