He married 15 Sep 1818 in Marlborough, Connecticut, Lucy Carrier [b. 24 Feb 1795 @ Marlborough, Connecticut, daughter of Joseph & Lois (Day) Carrier; d. 29 Aug 1882 @ Elmira, New York]. They had 3 children:
Sarah Alvord, b. 29 Sep 1819 @ Middletown, Connecticut
Betsey Lavina Alvord, b. 27 mar 1827 @ Waterville, New York
Augustus Gates Alvord, b. 21 Dec 1839 @ Catlin (now Dix), New York; d. 20 Dec 1850 @ Catlin, New York
Per the Alvord genealogy, Otis Alvord was a clothier by trade and had a small factory at Marlborough, Conn., from there he went to Middlefield and carried on business. About the year 1822 he removed to Schuyler, N. Y., and afterwards to Havanna, N. Y. After the marriage of his daughter Sarah, he went to Elmira, N. Y., and there lived until his death.
The above account is affirmed by census records which trace the Otis Alvord family in 1840 in Chautauqua County (western NY) [1], thereafter in Chemung County in south central New York [2],[3],[4]. In these records, Otis is described as a wool assorter.
Otis Alvord died 20 Jan 1866 @ Elmira, New York. His grave is in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, Chemung County, New York, USA [5]. An earlier online memorial site may take precedence after a likely merge [6].
