Biography

Catherine Hill Alvord, born 22 Sep 1830 at Geneseo, New York, was the third and final child of Lura (Smith) and Melzar Alvord (1793-1850).

She married 19 Nov 1846 at Lima, Indiana, Halsey Wood Wakeman [b. 13 Oct 1825 @ Ballston Spa, New York, son of Asenath (Sears) & Zalmon Wakeman]. At least eleven, perhaps 12 children proceeded from this union.

This family was enumerated during the 1850 U.S. census in East Van Buren, Indiana ^[1]. They were traced in the 1860 U.S. census in Farmersburg Township, Clayton County, Iowa ^[2]. In 1870 they were in Otho, Webster County, Iowa ^[3], then in 1880 in Newton Township, Jefferson County, Nebraska ^[4].

They later resided at Stuttgart, Arkansas and Ft. Dodge, Iowa ^[5],^[6],^[7].

Catherine Hill (Alvord) Wakeman died 25 Jan 1917 at Fort Dodge, Iowa ^[8]. Her grave is in Otho Cemetery, Otho, Webster County, Iowa, USA ^[9].
