Anne Alvord, born 23 May 1828 in Goshen, Connecticut, was the first child of Harriet Elizabeth (Lobdell) Alvord (1809-1904) and Chauncey Hart Alvord (1803-1881).
She married 19 Nov 1846 at East Hampton, Connecticut, Noah Sparrow Markham [1] [b. 14 Aug 1816, East Hampton, CT, son of Nathaniel & Nabbe Judd (Smith) Markham; d. 2 Aug 1892, Willimantic, CT]. They had 2 children, born at East Hampton, Connecticut:
This family was enumerated in census records of 1850 in East Hampton (formerly Chatham), Connecticut [2]. By 1860 they had moved to nearby Glastonbury [3],[4]. At the 1880 census, Noah and Anne were counted in Willimantic [5].
Per the Alvord genealogy, Mrs. Anne (Alvord) Markham was educated at Waterford, Conn., and at the Bacon Academy, Colchester, Conn. When a girl she lived with her aunt, Elizabeth (Alvord) Gates. She is now living (1908) at Willimantic, Conn., and has been most helpful in this work.
Anne (Alvord) Markham died in 1912. Her grave is in Lakeview Cemetery, East Hampton, Middlesex County, Connecticut, USA [6].
The cited 1860 census record lists 'Hubert L Markham', age 5, in the Noah S. Markham household. The 1870 record lists 'Herbert Markham', age 15. These do not synchronize with the Alvord genealogy which presents the given names of their second child as 'Arthur Leon'. Likely the census records should prevail.
