Biography

Theodotius Alvord was born October 30, 1792, in Hamilton, New York, the sixth and final child of Submit (Chapin) Alvord (1747-1825), second wife of Joseph Alvord (1733-1805).

He married Elizabeth Briggs (daughter of Allen Briggs and Elizabeth (Read) Briggs) on January 5, 1823, in Lockport, New York. They had three children, born near Lockport:

  1. Catharine E. Alvord, b. 6 Mar 1824; d. 12 Apr 1847 [1]; married Norman Sturges
  2. Celestia Clarissa Alvord, b. 23 Jul 1825; d. 4 Feb 1899; married 1) 1845 James A. Bailey; 2) 1890 William Wallace [2]
  3. William Alanson Alvord (1829-1900); married Caroline Louisa Moore

This family moved to Michigan about 1829 or '30.

Theodotius Alvord died of smallpox on February 19, 1838, in Pontiac, Michigan.
