Biography

Pliny Alvord, born 13 Mar 1781 at Greenfield, Massachusetts, was the third child of Caleb Alvord and Mary Murdock.

Pliny Alvord and Laurana Bardwell [b. 25 Apr 1786 @ Montague, Massachusetts, daughter of Samuel & Editha (Gunn) Bardwell; d. 21 Dec 1865 @ Greenfield, Massachusetts] published their marriage banns (intent to marry) on 4 July 1808 at Montague, Massachusetts ^[1]. They proceeded to marry on 1 September 1808 at Montague ^[2],^[3].

They had 4 children, born at Montague, Massachusetts:

1. Elijah Smead Alvord (1809-1894), b. 11 Jul 1809
2. Samuel Bardwell Alvord (27 Aug 1811 - 4 Nov 1811)
3. Lucy Bardwell (Alvord; 1813-1875), b. 16 Jun 1813; married Lewis Merriam
4. Laura Bardwell (Alvord; 1815-1899), b. 29 Oct 1815; married Thomas Oliver Sparhawk

Per the Alvord genealogy, Pliny Alvord was associated with his brother Caleb in business in Greenfield, Mass. He died at the home of his brother Alpheus, with whom he had lived for a year.

Pliny Alvord passed away 5 Dec 1859 at Troy, Ohio. His grave is in Troy Cemetery, Welshfield, Geauga County, Ohio, USA ^[4].

Notes

An upward trace on Laurana Bardwell probably would lead to Gideon Bardwell Sr. (1725-1814) and Hannah (Hawks; 1734-1799) as her paternal grandparents. On her mother's side, her grandparents probably were John Gunn (1707-1793) and Hannah (Root; 1718-1793).
