Biography

Calvin Alvord, born 3 Aug 1779 @ South Hadley, Massachusetts, was the first child of Samuel Alvord and Miriam White.

He married 8 Oct 1801 @ S. Hadley, Mary Brewster [b. 18 Oct 1780, daughter of Jesse & Susan Brewster]. They had 5 children, born at South Hadley:

  1. Broughton Alvord, b. 14 Jan 1802; unmarried; d. 16 Jul 1886, South Hadley
  2. Ruby Alvord (1805-1836), b. 22 Jan 1805; married 1) Ellis Coney; 2) Estes Cummings; d. 10 Nov 1836
  3. Calvin Alvord, b. 14 Mar 1810; unmarried; d. 11 Feb 1835
  4. Mary Ann Alvord, b. 4 Jan 1814; unmarried; d. 2 Oct 1890
  5. Jesse Brewster Alvord, b. 15 Aug 1816; unmarried; d. 22 Nov 1863 @ South Hadley

Per the Alvord genealogy, Calvin Alvord was a shoemaker by trade and had an extensive business in the neighborhood. He was diligent in his occupation and could always be found at his bench.

Calvin Alvord passed away at South Hadley, 18 Nov 1857 [1], with interment in Evergreen Cemetery, South Hadley, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA [2]. The death date as applied onto the pediment of the collective Alvord family monument (probably an obelisk) is Nov. 18, 1857. The year differs from 1856 which appears in the Alvord genealogy.

Alvord-1009 and Alvord-826 appear to represent the same person because: Both represent the spouse of Mary Brewster, who also has been duplicated. Careful use of the Wikitree search function could alleviate duplications in the future.
