Biography

Solomon Alvord, born 25 Apr 1808 at Easthampton, Massachusetts, was the third child of Caleb Alvord and Naomi Bodman.

He married first, 23 Jan 1834 @ Whateley, Massachusetts, Harriet Whiting Frary [b. about 1812, daughter of Phineas & Sally (Frary) Frary; d. 15 Jan 1846, Easthampton, Massachusetts]. They had 5 children, born at Easthampton:

Solomon Alvord married second, 24 May 1847 @ Easthampton, Massachusetts, Jael Eliza Bodurtha ^[1] [b. 1808, Chester, Massachusetts, daughter of Walter & Lucretia (Henry) Bodurtha; d. 2 Feb 1882, Easthampton].

The 1850 U.S. census tabulated the Solomon Alvord family in Easthampton, Massachusetts ^[2]. In this record, the given name of his (second) wife, Eliza, was incorrectly transcribed as Elvira in an online database, hence corrected ^[3].

Per the Alvord genealogy, Solomon Alvord was a farmer by occupation. He served as Selectman 1842-44, 1846-50, 1856, and at various times held other town offices.
