Biography

Jacobus Alyea was baptized 25 Apr 1730 at the Dutch Reformed Church in Schraalenburg, Bergen, Province of New Jersey. Sponsors: Jan Van Voorhees, Elisabet ______.[1][2]

He was the son of Pieter Alye and Margrietje Van Voorhese.[1][2]

Jacobus married Annaetje Secor 18 May 1752.[3][4]

Their children include:

Jacobus wrote his Will 7 Apr 1795 and it was proved 7 Dec 1800 in Bergen County. It names his wife Annaetje, daughters Margritje, Catrintje, Zantje, Rachel, Sufia, and Sally, grandson James Bogart (son of Sufia), and granddaughter Petertje.[4]

His headstone inscription at Westwood Cemetery, Westwood, Bergen County, New Jersey reads:[11]

departed this life Decr. 14th
1797
Aged 66 Years 10 months
& 3 Days.
My flesh shall slumber in the ground
Until the last trumpet Joyfull sound
