Arthur was born in 1851, into a very large family. His father was a Master Butcher and Farmer with a prosperous property. [1]
He was baptised at St Mary Magdalene Church, in Debenham, Suffolk, England [2]
In the household in the 1851 census is a nurse, Margaret Luff, who undoubtedly cared for Arthur and probably his 3 year old sister Mary as well. Three older brothers, Edwin, John and William, were also in the family on the night of the census.
Arthur trained as a painter and glazier, probably through an apprenticeship.
Arthur married Martha Mauldon in 1869 in Ipswich St Margaret, at the Congregational Chapel in Crown St. Arthur was 18 and Martha a year older.
On the Fifth day of September 1869 Arthur Amass Bachelor 20 years Plumber and Glazier of 16 Wishepole Street, Ipswich St Margaret and Martha Howgego Maulden spinster 18 years of 16 William Street Ipswich St Margaret were married at the Crown Street Congregational Chapel according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Independents in the presence of William Howgego and Emily Jane Pryke.
Grooms father: William Amass (deceased) Butcher.
Brides father: Charles Maulden Engineer.
Ten children were born to Arthur and Martha.
Arthur died in 1898 and in inquest was held. [6]
