Mary was born in December 1774, the second child and eldest daughter in her family.
She was baptised at St Mary the Virgin, an Anglican church in Dennington in Suffolk on 15 December 1774 .
Mary met John Palmer and they had a son in 1802, also called John. John was 22 and Mary was 26. No marriage has yet been located and the son appears to have been baptised under surname Amass, though he later used Palmer.
In 1811, at the age of 36, Mary married Thomas Darby in Debenham, Suffolk.
Thomas and Mary had a daughter, Mary Ann, whose actual birth year is in dispute. She was born somewhere within two years of their marriage and was baptised at St Mary Magdalene in 1812.
Many family researchers show two daughters called Mary Ann to this family, one born in 1809 and one in 1812.
Thomas must have died at some point before 1814.
Mary married Benjamin Smith in October 1814 in Debenham. Mary was now aged 40 and Benjamin's age is unknown.
Mary and Benjamin had one son, called Amass Smith. Amass was born in 1815 and died the same year.
The 1851 census shows her as a 'Farmer of 30 acres employing her son-in-law and family'.
Mary died on 01 January 1852, in Debenham.
