John was born to George Amass and his wife Susan Blake in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. His birth was registered during the last quarter of 1900. [1]
John was one of at twelve children in his family. (Information of the amount is recorded on the 1911 census for his parents. Only 10 children have been found so far.)[2]
When the 1911 census was taken, John aged 10 years, was attending school in Ecclesall, Yorkshire (West Riding). He was living with his Uncle, George Henry Robinson (40), Aunt, Nellie Moyes Robinson (38) and Grandmother Mary Blake (77), in Ecclesall, Sheffield, Yorkshire (West Riding), England.
On 6th July, 1928, John boarded the ship Antonia owned by Cunard Line and captained by Geo A Melson, at Liverpool Docks. The ship was sailing to Quebec, Canada. John is listed as a Spring Maker, aged 28 years, last known address, 34 Florence Road, Sheffield. [3]
Very little is known about his life after this date, including if he married.
John passed away on 21st June, 1969, and was buried in Mount Royal Cemetery Montreal, Montreal Region, Quebec, Canada. [4][5]
There is reference to a Mary Amass buried in the same cemetery in 1978, which may (or may not) be John's Wife, but evidence of this has not yet been found. Find A Grave: Memorial #108987132

I think that the privacy could be lowered to green on John's profile. If he was married to Mary she is also deceased. (See profile notes). I will leave that to your discretion. :)
Thanks and happy researching,
Wendy
