William Ambelang was born in the Province of Brandenburg, Prussia

Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Ambelang, or William, as he was known, was born on 3 April 1841, in Templin, Brandenburg, Prussia. [1] His father, Johann Wilhelm Mathias Ambelang, was 28 and his mother, Charlotte Wilhelmine Caroline (Band) Ambelang, was 27. The oldest of three brothers, at the age of about 26 years, along with brother August, he emigrated from Hamburg, Germany to New York, New York on the steamship Doctor Barth. [1] The next year, he would be followed by his parents and youngest brother Frank. They settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He later married Mary DeSomber.
