Biography

OBITUARY: Carol Lee “Mamaw” Bielke departed this life peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 11, 2019 at Bec’s Blessing in Serbin, Texas.

Carol was born and raised in Hampton, Virginia where she attended school. She was the daughter of Oscar and Margaret Ambrose. She met and married the love of her life, Edward Bielke II in Newport News, Virginia in 1952. Being an Air Force military family, they lived in places across the world from Alabama, Morocco, Italy, Taiwan and retiring in Austin, Texas. No matter where they were stationed, Carol made it home.

Carol dearly loved her University of Texas Longhorns, where she retired from as a food service manager. She loved to socialize and was very active in Austin with the Red Hat Society and helped with many fundraisers. She enjoyed exercising at the YMCA and having lunches with her friends in Austin and her sisters-in-law in San Antonio. Also, she chauffeured many of her elderly friends around town.

After a brief illness, she moved to Giddings and then to the Serbin area where she was a resident of Bec’s Blessing. It was here that she appointed herself as the official greeter for Bec’s Blessing and loved watching the cows and horses. Carol never met a stranger and if she did, they were not a stranger for long. She would know all about a person in no time at all and everyone would get to have a conversation with Carol.

She will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who each have their own special memories of excursions with mamaw.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Ambrose and Margaret Ambrose Biggers; her step-father, Kenneth Biggers; her husband, Edward Bielke II; her son, Edward Bielke III; her sister, Joan Looff and her brother, Kenneth Biggers Jr.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debra & Maurice Pitts of Giddings; her daughter-in-law, Cheri Bielke of Austin; four grandchildren, Angela Bielke & her husband, Garth of New Braunfels, Zachary Pitts & his wife, Emily of Bryan, Alexis Young & her husband, Nathan of Brainerd, MN and Clayton Bielke of Austin; six great grandchildren, Brandon, Tyler and Cathryn Bielke of New Braunfels, Maverick & Everleigh Young of Brainerd, MN and Max Pitts of Bryan; two sisters-in-law, Wilma Achterburg of San Antonio and Evelyn Bielke of San Antonio; two brothers-in-law, Jeff Looff of Marion and Freddie Zipp of Marion as well as several nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Carol’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral in Giddings with Tim Pitts officiating. Burial will be in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, February 15, 2019 from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Bec’s Blessing, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings, Grace Lutheran Church in Giddings or the charity of one’s choice.
