In 1920 Bertha and Delma were living with her parents. She was listed as single and using her maiden name. Delma was listed under her fathers last name. Bill was living with his parents and listed as married [8][9]
Apparently they reunited because they had 3 more daughters together in 1921, 22 and 23. All three were listed as being born in Ohio.
Sometime before 1930 Bertha took the girls to Waverly Ohio and put them in an orphange. [10]
Bertha married Marcus Wells (1890 - 1963) in 1932 in Butler, Ohio.
in 1940 She was living in Excello, Lemon Township, Butler County, Ohio, United States with her 2nd husband, their 2 children and a step-son. She had been their since at least 1935. [11]
Sometime before April 4th 1950 the family moved to Delaware, Ripley County, Indiana. [12]
Bertha died on 11 Sep 1978 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. [13]
Information that I recieved for various family members is that Bertha was a heavy drinker and just wasn't able to be a mother to the girls. I was told she left Kentucky due to the embarressment of Bill's crimes. Records show that she actully left prior to his arrest and conviction of murder. Did she leave because of the suggested domestic volence or were they living in Ohio and she was too embarrassed to go home to Kentucky? Dale-2823 13:59, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
