Biography

Vernon was born in 1889. He was the son of Joseph Ament and Abigail Martin. He served in WWI (1917-1919) as a US Army private, discharged in Logan, UT. His service left him partially paralyzed on his left side; he was treated at the National Home for Disabled Veterans in Sawtelle, CA.

Vernon was married first (1914) to Lillian May Rogers; they had one child, Ruth Ellen Ament. Vernon was married second (about 1926) to Peggy Jaynes; they had two children, Barbara and Leah.

In the 1920 US Census, he was listed as a lodger, single, living in Tulare, CA. The 1930 US Census shows him living in Los Angeles, married to Peggy Jaynes, with children Barbara and Leah. They were divorced about 1936.

In 1937, Vernon attended the marriage of his daughter Ruth to Virgil Matthew Meaden in Long Beach, CA. He passed away in 1970.
