Ray was born in 1930. He passed away in 2008.
Born in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Henry Lever Amerson and the late Cora Lea Winkles Amerson.
Mr. Amerson was a graduate of Edmunds High School and owner of The Typewriter Shop until his retirement in 1982. He and his wife, Betty, owned Kiddie Korner Kare in Manning and Amerson's Child Care and Development Center in Florence. He was a past member of the Sumter Jaycees and past member and officer of Sumter Elk's Lodge No. 255. Ray was a former member of First Church of God in Sumter and became a member of Santee Baptist Church after his retirement.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Surviving are his wife, formerly of Sumter; a son, Jody Edward Amerson of Summerton; three daughters, Jean Sepich and husband, Jerry, of Hoffman Estates, III, Joan Amerson of Columbia and Jenny Adams and husband, Tom, of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Thelma Geddings of Sumter; a grandchild, Kirk Weaver of Columbia; three great-grandchildren, Jade, Maddison and Denver Houchin, and their father, Jay Houchin, all of Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Amerson was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Crystal Thompson Houchin.
