NOTE: There is some contraversy about Robert A Ames/Amos both born in Mo and both being married to Mary Casteel. Evidence seems to indicate these are one and the same men as seen on his son's Noble Amos's death record.
Birth years differ by two years, but both men were born in Missouri. Middle Initial is "A" for Alonzo, he also is noted on census records as Lon hence sometimes "L" substituted for middle initial.
I will try to provide better proof, but DNA suggests these two men are one and the same. Kirt Fetterling Great Grandson 22-oct-2020
Biography
Name: Robert L. Amos.
Given Name: Robert A Amos "Lon"
Surname: Amos.
A Given name was found in addition to a first name in the NAME tag.FSFTID 9JY5-RHQ.
The DNA evidence points to Robert (A or L) Amos (Ames) L shortened for Lon shortened for Alonzo, as being one and the same person. The dna of the Ames line entering the Casteel line at this approx point in both lines based on cM's of the people sharing their DNA. Robert's 2nd wife Melissa Ellen Jones whom he had three children with was later divorced from her sighting Abandonment of she and her 3 children in 1903. He fled Kansas for Texas and met his new bride to be Anna Maria Schmersahl who was living in Texas in 1903 and they were wed. They had a child in Texas, Robert Parker AMES (Amos), Shortly thereafter left to Colorado.. Only there one year and having another child my grandmother Natalie Francis Ames (Amos). Why Colorado? It made no sense for such a short stay. Some Amos family was there. No Ames, but family to help with the family would make sense. They within one year left again for Santa Barbara, California where Anna ran a board and care and restaurant. They had another child while in California Robert Lansing Ames (Amos) who at the age of three died of complications of spinal meningitis and compounded by the 1917 Spanish Flu. Robert took the kids to back to Colorado for some reason and left his wife to run the business with her sister. A few years later the children were brought back to California and Robert was soon divorced and he went on to find anothr wife in California.
The best evidence is the death cert of his son Noble Ernest Amos (Ames) digitized copy attached for your review with lots of corrections at the tiime of the writing.. Was confusing then as it is now. It is what it is! DNA shall provide the truth. Kirt Fetterling 1-Nov-2020

Note: My GGrandfather appears to have lead two lives. One as Amos, and then later Ames. An inconvenient truth to hide his past life? Born in Missouri, already once divorced, he again married in 1903 in Kansas, and was later divorced for abandonment of his wife and three children. He fled Kansas for Texas, where he met my Great Grandmother and they married and had their first child while there. Soon they left for Colorado. Why? It was unknown to me for the longest time, but once the pieces started falling in place, Colorado is where some of the Amos are living. My Grandmother was born in Colorado, and shortly after the family left for Santa Barbara, California. Some Amos are buried there, as well as their third child who died at the age of three of Spinal Menengitus complicated by the onset of the Spanish Flu of 1917. So this man goes by many names. Robert Alonzo Amos, or more often Robert A Amos, but sometimes Lon and L as a middle initial so Robert L Amos or Ames also. Or just Lon Ames. Very easy to hide when your name keeps changing.. I suppose we can learn from his example you cannot hide from your past, but also even out of bad some good can come from it.
