Biography

Jeanne Amirault was born on 4 Nov 1684 in Cap-Sable, Acadie, Nouvelle-France, daughter of François Amireau (abt. 1644–aft. 1737) and Marie Pitre (abt. 1666–aft. 1726).

In 1686, at Port Royal, Jeanne, aged 2, was living with her parents, Francois TOURANGEAU [sic], aged 42, and Marie PITRE, aged 22.[1]

Marie (14) married Joseph Mius (19) (born about 1679 in Pobomcoup, Cap de Sable, Acadie, Nouvelle-France; son of Philippe Mius and Unknown Mi'kmaq) in 1699 in Pobomcoup, Cap de Sable. Their known children were:

  1. Joseph Mius (1700–aft. 1767) .
  2. Charles Mius (1701–abt. 1795) .
  3. François Mius (1703–abt. 1774) .
  4. Angélique Mius (1704–1738) .
  5. Marie Josephe Mius (abt. 1706–1757) .
  6. Claire Mius (1708–1760) .
  7. Marie Magdelaine Mius (1710–abt. 1758) .
  8. Jean-Baptiste Mius (1713–1806) .
  9. Marguerite Mius (abt. 1716–1755) .
  10. Cécile Mius (1717–1751) .
  11. Geneviève Mius (abt. 1720–1758) .
  12. Rosalie Mius (1725–abt. 1758) .
  13. Charles Benjamin Mius (1728–bef. 1759)

H. Leander D'Entremont's history "This Joseph Mius, son of Philippe Muis, whose mother's name was Marie, whom Placide Gaudet calls an Indian, was born about 1684 (Census of 1708 has birth around 1673 and it was that document D'Entremont was quoting), and, in the year, 1699, he married Marie Amirault, b. in 1684, da, of Francois Amirault, dit Tourangeau(X--and of Marie Pitre) and, by a census, taken in 1708, I find that they have [five] children,.... (There is in fact seven children listed, two being added later; Joseph 1700, Charles 1701, Francois 1703, Angelique 1704, Marie-Joseph 1705, Claire 1709, Jean-Baptiste 1713.[2]

Joseph Mius is listed with his family in the Native American census of 1708. This is an interesting document with some historical provenance. The families are list by numbers and locales as well as by wigwam number. Last names were usually omitted, but not for all families. Joseph Mius I is listed under one of the French families (6th Family) as Joseph dazy. His wife, Marie Amirault as Marie tourangeau. Please note the lower case letters of the suffixes. His age of 35 places his birth in 1673. 1673 Census

Marie and Joseph were registered at a baptism as the mother and father of a child that was not their own:

Charles Benjamin Mius' baptism record of Jan 2 1730 has his birth one year and nine months previous to that date. That places his birth in 1728, which coincides with Benjamin's age in the 1752 Census of Ile Royale. The baptism register had the father as Joseph Mius deceased and the mother as Marie Amirault (who was also deceased. The register has a proxy baptism by the real father, Pierre Landry, with the real baptism being done by a priest later. Not uncommon in Acadia to do so. The godparents were Charles Mius and Anne Surette. The real mother was not named.

Joseph Mius and Marie Jeanne Amireau are common ancestors of all known cases of Nova Scotia Niemann-Pick Disease (Type D). This is a result of the "founder effect". Niemann-Pick is a neurological disorder. Not sure if it would be appropriate to add this information to their profiles?

David, this is a very interesting situation. I want to ask the powers that be if it's appropriate to use this. The study you sent was so informative about the Nova Scotia specifics of ancestry confirming this couple as one of three who are at the center. They also looked at the genealogy of others in the school district and found many connected to them as a result of inbreeding in this very specific area. The second article describes the education for people there as well as tests that have been developed to detect the gene mutation that will cause the disease. What would be your purpose to include this information on these profiles? Would you want to add it all the way down their lines? What do you hope the benefit be?

I'll start with WikiTree policy first and let you know where that goes. Thanks for such helpful info. Cindy

David, while researching, I found another instance that was brought up in a G2G posting.

https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1363654/genetic-mutation-found-descendants-couple-rushing-harrell and this profile had a very nice way of posting it (though I wouldn't put it first on the profile . . .) https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Rushing-5691

Perhaps you'd like to do both of those things?

Amireau-9 and Amirault-31 do not represent the same person because: These are both children of Francois Amireau. They have different birthdates and different spouses. Stephen White p. 17 or Karen Theriot Reader

I looked here https://archives.novascotia.ca/acadian/archives/?ID=110 to check. I couldn't quite make out the dates on Jeanne Amirant's baptism record. I hope someone with better skills can shed some light on what it says. It gives her baptism date and her birth date. I did change her given name to Jeanne per that record and the census record, but please correct if I'm mistaken in how it reads.

It looks to me like the baptism took place 23 May 1704 and the birth on 15 November 1694 which would be for her sister also called Jeanne, (but the record transcription gives the date 4 November 1694). I read the two French dates this way: le vingt-troisième mai mille sept cent cinq and le quinzième novembre mille six cent quatre-vingt-quatorze. Help!!

She appears as Jeanne, age two on census of 1686.

Yes, Jeanne's birth is on 15th (quinzième) November 1694. The way that it is written, the 15th (quinzième) looks like a 4th (quatrième) but when you compare this word with "quatorze" in the next line, it is easier to see that it is a Z and not a T. Date of is Baptism is 23 May 1705. There is another date in the record: 23 October 1705. It is the date that the priest wrote the entry in the register.

So, that means, this record belongs to her sister Jeanne Amireau-9 who has the correct birth date.

I'm sorry cousin but they appear to be two separate entities sharing the same parents. Marie married Joseph D'Entremont and Jeanne married Jacques Girouard. I created a rejected match>Linda
