Biography

Marie-Josephe Amirault was born in 1717 to François Amiraut and Magdelaine Laure. She was baptized 31 October 1717 at Saint-Jean Baptiste Catholic Church, Port-Royal, Acadia, New France.[1][2]

Marie Joseph Amirault (alternately recorded Miraut) and Alexandre Hébert were united by marriage on 11 January 1740 in St. Jean-Baptiste, Annapolis Royal.[3] Children included:

  • Anne Helene Hebert, baptized on 30 Oct 1749 at Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia to Alexandre Hebert and Marie Joseph Miraut.[4]

Marie-Josephe and her family were most probably caught up in the Expulsion of the Acadians (Le Grand Dérangement), which was the forced removal of the Acadian people from the present day Canadian Maritime provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and northern Maine. The expulsion (1755–1764) of Acadians, initially to the Thirteen Colonies, occurred during the French and Indian War.[5] As she died later in L'Assomption, it is likely her family was deported, and returned from one of the New England colonies. Further research is required to confirm this.

She was buried on 18 February 1805 at L'Assomption, Les Pays-d'en-Haut, Quebec, Canada.[6][7]

Amiraud-1 and Amirault-38 appear to represent the same person because: Same year of christening (only one in 1717)
