James Amos, son of Andrew, was admitted at Trinity College, Cambridge University on 17 Oct 1846. He matriculated at Michaelmas 1847; migrated to Clare College on 5 Jul 1848; obtained a B.A. in 1851 and an M.A. in 1854; Ordained as a deacon in 1852, and as a priest in 1853. He was Curate of Brent Eleigh, Suffolk 1852-4; Curate of Holy Trinity, Marylebone, London 1854-61; Vicar of St Stephen's, Southwark 1861-75; Curate of St Saviour's Chapel, Tonbridge 1875-7; Lic. pr., dio. St Albans 1887-96.[4]
James Amos, son of Andrew Amos, married Frances Karr Snape, daughter of Richard Snape, on 5 Apr 1861 at Trinity Church, Marylebone, Middlesex.[5] The marriage was registered in Marylebone, London in the second quarter of the year.[6] A marriage notice was published in the Norfolk News on 13 Apr 1861.[7]

In 1871 James Amos (age 42, Clergy) lived in St George the Martyr, London with his wife Frances K (42) and six children: Andrew (7), Ada F (6), Herbert G M (4), James P L (2), Archibald D R (1), and Margaret C A L (0), as well as five servants: Elizabeth Laycock (49, Cook), Hannah B Collins (35, Nurse), Thirza Messenger (18, Housemaid), Martha Tribe (14, Assistant Nurse), and Elizabeth Collins (63, Monthly Nurse).[8]
James' wife Frances Carr Amos passed away in 1873.
James Amos, son of Andrew Amos, married the widow Anne Elizabeth (Fisher) Pike, daughter of Anthony Lax Fisher, in 1875 at St Ippollitts.[9]
In 1881 James Amos (age 52, Clergym. Ch of Engd Without Cure of Souls) lived at Bateman St in Cambridge St Andrew the Less, Cambridgeshire [at Paston House, 46 Bateman St] with his wife Anne E (44), daughter Margaret C A L (10, Scholar), and five Pike stepchildren: Mary E B (15, Scholar), Annie E B (14, Scholar), Constance R B (12, Scholar), Margaret L B (10, Scholar), and William B (7, Scholar), as well as governess Blanch M Guthery (22) and visitor Antonia H Fisher (29).[10]
In 1891 James Amos (age 62, Clerk in Holy Orders) was staying at College Terrace in Brighton, Sussex with his son Archibald (21, Scholar), daughter Margaret (20), and servant Hannah Collins (55, House Keeper).[11] His wife Anna E (54, Living on Own Means) was at Bateman Street in Cambridge with four of her children.
James Amos passed away on 18 Mar 1896, aged 67 years. His death was registered in Cambridge in the first quarter of the year.[12]
