Joseph Amos was born at Clipstone, Nottinghamshire, England on 3rd March 1808. He was baptised on the 10th April 1808 at St Mary's Church, Edwinstowe, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Amos of Clipstone. [1]
He married Ann Maskery at St Martin's Church, Alfreton on 29th January 1837.[2][3]
In 1841, Joseph and Ann Amos were recorded on the census at Summer Coates (Somercotes) Alfreton, Derbyshire. Joseph's age was recorded as 30, Ann's 25 and their son John was 4 years old.[4]
In 1851, they were living at Cotes Park, Alfreton. Joseph gave his birthplace as Clipstone, Nottinghamshire and his occupation was Farm Labourer. Ann's birthplace was recorded as Birchwood, Derbyshire. Their son John was now 13 years old.[5] They also had a daughter "H" (Hannah), a son "J" (James), and a son "T". (Thomas)[6]
The 1861 census records Joseph and Ann Amoss living at Summercotes, Alfreton with children John, Hannah, James, Thomas, Betsey and George.[7]
