The church and court records of the mid 1600s-early1700s for the county of Falkenstein, including the towns of Imsbach, Winnweiler, Gaugrehweiler and other nearby towns have been thoroughly searched by Dr. T. F. Heldt in association with ancestry.com pro genealogist B. Schellenberger, under the direction of R. Amos.
The results have led us to conclude that in the late 1600s/early 1700s there were three AMOS families in this specific area who were very closely related. The heads of the the three families were Johann Bernard AMOS of Imsbach, Johann Martin AMOS of Lohnsfeld/Winnweiler, and Hans Henrich AMOS of Mannweiler/Gaugrehweiler. These three AMOS men were all born in the 1653-1670 timeframe, and all three have early ties to Winnweiler, suggesting that they were brothers born in or nearby Winnweiler.
The father of these three probable brothers is possibly Emich Amos , who in 1673 is listed as a government servant of the county of Falkenstein. This family structure is supported by the fact that there are no other AMOS listings in Winnweiler/Falkenstein during this timeframe. Furthermore, in multiple records, descendants of one branch (brother) were sponsors in the baptismal records of descendants of another branch (brother), supporting this probable close family connection.
There are gaps in the church records for Winnweiler from the mid 1600s, but based on his death record, Hans Henrich AMOS was born about 1664 in Winnweiler, Falkenstein, Pfalz, Germany. On 20 Aug 1690 he married Anna Elisabetha (-) in Obendorf. He moved from Winnweiler to Mannweiler, where he is listed in his 1690 marriage record, to "Anna Elisabeht, Bernhardt Frölich’s surviving widow of Mannweiler", as "Hans Henrich Ampts (sic), journeyman miller of Winnweiler".
Hans Henrich AMOS died in 1703 in Mannweiler, parish of Gaugrehweiler: "23 January 1703, Hinrich Amos, miller in Manweiler, died in the 38th year of his life". Most of his immediate descendants lived in Gaugrehweiler and the surrounding villages. Some were later listed as sponsors/godparents in baptism records for the descendants of his brothers, supporting their close family connection.
