"Another old resident of Ashburton, in the person of Mr David Amos, passed away yesterday afternoon at his late residence, Cox Street, in his seventieth year.
Born at Swansea, Tasmania, in 1850, the late Mr Amos migrated to New Zealand when he was eighteen years of age, and for some years was engaged in various pursuits in North Canterbury, eventually coming to Ashburton in the year 1873. Deceased followed the occupation of a book-keeper, as was in the employ of the late K. Lancaster, butcher, in the early days, also other old-established firms, including Messrs. Tucker's Ltd, whom he was with for over ten years.
Being of a cherry disposition, he made many friends, and his death will be regretted by many old associates. He was one of the first members of the Forester's Lodge, being secretary for many years. He leaves a widow and six sons." [6]
