Biography

James was born in 1886. He was the son of David Amos and Elizabeth Fowler. [1] He married Alice Gertrude Marchant in 1914 [2] He passed away in 1916 age 30 [3]

"Mr James Clarence Amos, who was well known in Ashburton, died at Rotorua on Saturday night. Deceased, who was 30 years of age, was educated at the Hampstead School, and had been employed in the Post and Telegraph serive for the past 17 years. At the time of his death he was in charge of the Money Order Office at the Rotorua Post Office. He leaves a widow and child to mourn his loss." [4]

"Death of Postal Official Mr James Clarence Amos, who for two years had been clerk in charge of the money order and savings bank department at the Rotorua Post Office, died on Saturday night from pneumonia. He was about 30 years of age and leaves a widow and one child. Mr Amos was a very efficient and popular officer. He was an enthusiastic hockey player, and had represented Nelson and South Canterbury in inter-provincial matches." [5]
