Biography

When John Amos was born on 29 August 1697, in Preston, New London, Connecticut Colony, British Colonial America, his father, John Amos, was 32 and his mother, Sara Morgan, was 19.[1] He married Mary Smith on 1 December 1715, in Preston, New London, Connecticut Colony, British Colonial America.[2] They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 3 daughters.

Last Will and Testament[3]

I, John Ames of Preston, in the county of New London, in the colony of Connecticut in New England, on this 4th day of November 1768 (spelled out) make this my last will and testament (then standard will verbiage).

Wife Mary, he leaves her 1/3 of his real estate to enjoy for the rest of her natural life --His brown mare, 2 cows, half his sheep --All the household goods

Son John Ames, 10 pounds

Son Hugh Ames, all his real estate for himself and his heirs --all the farming tools --all the carpenter tools --all the livestock ---except for what was already given to his mother

To daughters Hannah, Abigail, and Mary 5 shillings each (as they already received their full portion)

Grandson Alsael Ames (spelling, hard to read) all the cooper tools

Grandson Elisha Ames, his gun

Son Daniel, deceased, received his full portion during his lifetime

Son Hugh Ames was named sole executor and responsible for paying everyone their shares.
