Biography

Sigied Joseph "Si" Amoury was born in 1902 in Shelby, North Carolina to Joseph Kalil Amoury and Flora Mary Baker Amoury.

Like his brothers and sisters, Si lived in Brooklyn for several years as a young man. He traveled to Bahia, Brazil in 1923 and worked as a clerk there for the Amoury Trading Company (New York) for two years. He eventually returned to the Bahama Islands to live and work.

Sigied Amoury married Stella Kathleen Watson, nurse, daughter of Thomas George Watson, 6 May 1950 in Nassau, Bahamas.

Si Amoury was the first president of the Rotary Club of East Nassau, which was chartered 6 May 1963.

He was interested in horses, and along with George Ageeb, owned racing stables at Bahamian tracks.

Sigied Joseph Amoury died in Nassau, Bahamas in 1979 at 77 years of age. He is buried at Sacred Heart Church Cemetery. His wife, Stella Amoury, died 25 October 2016 in Nassau at 98 years of age.
