Biography

Leon Joseph Amoury was born in 1911 in Nassau, Bahamas to Joseph Kalil Amoury and Flora Mary Baker Amoury.

Like his brothers and sisters, he resided in New York for several years; he appears in the 1930 US Census living with his brother Emanuel in Port Richmond, Staten Island.

By the 1940s, Leon Joseph was residing in Norfolk, Virginia. He served in the United States Navy during World War II; in 1944, he was crew aboard the USS Amick (DE-168) and served aboard the USS ATR 78 in 1945.

In August 1942, Leon Joseph Amoury married Bertha Roberts, daughter of WH and Dora Roberts, in Camden County, North Carolina. They divorced in Virginia in 1945. He married, second, Marie Joyce "Joy" Olson, of Wellesley and Hudson Massachusetts, about 1946 - 1947. The couple had four sons and a daughter, all born in Nassau, Bahamas.

Leon Joseph "Buddy" Amoury and his brother, Si, were charter members of the Rotary Club of East Nassau in 1963.

Leon Joseph Amoury died in Nassau, Bahamas in 1995 at 83 years of age. He is buried in the Sacred Heart Church Cemetery, Nassau.
