Amund Amundsen was born in 1841. He passed away in 1924.
The full family name was originally Amundsen Moldusen.
Amund emigrated from Norway and arrived in New Zealand in 1875 with a number of other Scandinavian settlers, his wife and first four children.
Amund was balloted, and took up, section 161 on the Danish Line, Norsewood/Ormondville, New Zealand. He pioneered (cleared and established) this section.
"Amund AMUNDSEN MOLDUSEN (AMUNDSEN) was born on 06 Nov 1841 in Grue, Hedmark, Norway. He was christened on 26 Jun 1842 in Grue, Hedmark, Norway. He died on 06 May 1924 in Eskdale, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. The cause of death was senile decay, cardiac failure instantaneous. He was buried on 08 May 1924 in Eskdale Cemetery, Eskdale, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. Amund was counted in a census in 1865 in Karvastorpet, Grue, Hedmark, Norway. He emigrated on 16 Dec 1874 from Hamburg, Germany, aboard "Fritz Reuter". He immigrated on 18 Mar 1875 to Napier, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. He was employed as a labourer, settler, and farmer."[1]
Amund's (double) family names presumably follows the Scandinavian patrynomic naming system ie "Amundsen" means son of Amund (also his father's first name) and "Moldusen" the birthplace.
