Biography

John Ancell was born 3 Dec 1781 in Madron, Cornwall, England to Joseph Ancell.[1]

John Ancell married Ann Cotton.[citation needed]

John and Ann had seven children: John Ancell (1808-), Grace Ancell (1809-), Ann Ancell (1812-), James Richards Ancell (1814-1882), Elizabeth Richards Ancell (1817-1894), Joseph Ancell (1820-1902), and Mary Jane Ancell (1824-1895).

In 1841 John Ancell (age 55-59) lived at Buriton Rowe in Madron with his wife Ann (50-54), four children: James (20-24), Elizabeth (18-22), Joseph (15-19), and Jane (12), and granddaughter Elizabeth (1).[2]

John's wife passed away in 1849.

In 1851 John Ancell (age 69, Mason (Master)) lived at Buriton Row in Madron with three of his children: Joseph (31, Mason (Journeyman)), Elizabeth (33, Formerly Straw Bonnet Maker), and Mary J (28, Household Work), and granddaughter Elizabeth (11, Scholar).[3]

In 1861 John Ancill (age 79, Retired Master Stone Mason) lived at Buriton Row in Madron with his two daughters: Elizabeth R (44, Bread Seller & Baker) and Mary J (37, Bread Seller & Baker).[4]

John Ancell passed away in 1864, aged 84 years. His death was registered in Penzance in the third quarter of the year.[5]
