Biography

Rasmus Andersen was born 1774 in Ørridslev parish, Voer, Skanderborg, Denmark. He is the illigitimate son of Anders Christensen and Karen Andersdatter.^[1]

In 1787 he was living with his maternal uncle Jens Andersen in Ørridslev parish.

He married Bodil Pedersdatter on December 6, 1799 in Kattrup parish, Voer, Skanderborg.^[2] They had at least seven children, all born in Kattrup parish.

1. Mette Katrine Rasmusdatter was born on October 5, 1800.^[3]
2. Rasmus Peder Rasmussen was born in 1805.
3. Ane Kirstine Rasmusdatter was born in 1807.
4. Karen Rasmusdatter was born in 1810.
5. Edel Margrethe Rasmusdatter was born on June 26, 1813.^[4]
6. Jens Rasmussen was born on July 25, 1816.^[5]
7. Peder Rasmussen was born on November 23, 1818.^[6]

His wife Bodil died on March 23, 1820, when their youngest child was less than two years old.

Rasmus passed away at an age of fifty-seven on October 15, 1831 in Ovsted parish, Voer, Skanderborg.^[7]

Note that there are multiple Rasmus Andersen's in this region born about the same year that could be him on the 1787 census. These are the possibilites considered, with possible other references and notes. Started with the assumption that the 1801 census above is him, and has his correct birth year.

1. Anders Rasmussen, born 1764 in Vaer parish, Steensballe to parents Anders Rasmussen and Karen Pedersdatter This does not seem to be him (see the 1801 census), although these records initially seemed to be the obvious matching references. Most genealogy websites list these records as his, so they will be left here for others to decide for themselves.
