Biography

Birth

Susan (___) was likely born before 1682, probably in Charles City County, Colony of Virginia, based on her appearance there as the wife of Mathew Sturdivant by 1700. Her origins are unknown.[1]

Marriage

She married Mathew Sturdivant before 1700, probably in Charles City County, Colony of Virginia. On 1 June 1700, Mathew Sturdivant and his wife Sarah coveyed land in Charles City County.[1]

Death

The circumstances of her death are unknown. A prior version of this profile gave a death date of 17 December 1726, but original source for this claim is unknown.

Children

Children of Mathew Sturdivant and Sarah (___) include at least:[1]

  1. Hallon
  2. John Anderson
  3. Henry
  4. Mathew

They likely also had daughters, but their identity is unknown.[1]

Research Notes

Disputed Origins

The fact that one of her sons was given the middle name of "Anderson" leads some researchers to speculate that this may have been her last name at birth, but this claim is still speculative. A prior version of this profile attached Thomas Anderson and Elizabeth Byers as her parents, but cited no source for this claim and there does not appear to be any connection between that couple and the Sarah who married Mathew Sturdivant.
