James Horton Anderson was born in 1819 in Tompkins, New York. His parents may have been Hezekiah Anderson and Eleanor Updike. He married Eliza A Tichenor on May 25, 1841, in Dryden, New York. He then married Alzina Stamp and they had two children together. He was appointed postmaster on July 22, 1853 in Newfield, Tompkins, NY. He died in 1870 in Newfield, New York, at the age of 51.
